At least 6 women in Isfahan have been attacked by acid thrown in their faces in the past weeks. They are all hospitalized in Isfahan’s Faiz Hospital. One of the victims is a 21 year-old girl. In addition to the acid thrown on her face, acid has also entered her mouth and burned her inner organs. Witnesses say that the common characteristic of all the victims was that they were young, beautiful and didn’t wear chadors.
Isfahan Province officials have recently mentioned some harsh rhetoric against women who do not observe the hijab codes. Yousef Tabatabai-Nejad, Isfahan’s Friday prayer leader said: “The issue of hijab is no longer about giving notices, in order to counter those who do not have complete hijab, sticks must be raised and force must be used”.
