The Youth Journalist Club associated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards asked the opinion of five senior mullahs on the presence of women in sports stadiums.
Makarem Shirazi: “The atmosphere in sports stadiums are not proper for women’s presence and there is no doubt that youths mixing and being free to do so will be the source of many moral and social problems; furthermore in some sports, men don’t have adequate clothing to be seen by women.”
Safi Golpaygani: “I have many times reminded of the threat of women mixing with men outside of their family, and this is against ladies’ virtue and hijab regulations. These types of programs are against sharia laws.”
Alavi Gorgani: “In our opinion the presence of ladies is forbidden considering the fact that parts of men’s bodies are naked. This will lead to some moral problems.”
Gerami: “The presence of women in sports stadiums is forbidden given the fact that they mix up with men and that at times their eyes will fall on the half-naked bodies of male athletes.”
Nouri Hamedani: “It is forbidden.”
