Atena Da’emi, 27 and a civil rights activist imprisoned in Evin Prison’s women’s ward, is suffering from Muscular Sclerosis (MS) and is in very bad health conditions. She was reportedly sound and healthy when first imprisoned but contracted this illness under interrogation and in solitary confinement where she was held for 57 days.
Ms. Da’emi was arrested for peaceful civil activism, charged with “propagating against the regime, gathering and conspiring against national security, insulting the leader and the founder of the Islamic Republic” and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.
Her transfer to hospital for treatment has been halted by prison officials because her pictures of previous reference to hospital were disseminated by the media.
