“Women’s veiling is a necessary principle that must be preserved and protected.” Mullah Jaafar Shajooni said this in an interview with an official website.
Referring to Iranian women’s defiance of the regime’s repressive measures, Shajooni said, “Unfortunately, some women make a mockery of veil in society or adopt a political attitude towards this. That’s why they should be punished severely according to the law.”
Shajooni also noted the recent legislation punishing women with heavy fines, if they fail to observe the standard code of veiling. He said, “Those who deliberately oppose Islamic decrees must be seriously dealt with according to the law.” (State-run Fars news agency, Aug. 23, 2015)
