Members of the mullahs’ parliament opposed the bill “granting citizenship to children born from mothers married to alien men and children of non-Iranian martyrs”.
Hossien-Ali Amiri, Deputy Minister of Interior said the adoption of this law would create “security, political and social” problems for the country and increase immigration.
The bill had proposed to grant citizenship to children born from Iranian mothers and foreign fathers after they are 18, provided that they are born in Iran, reside in the country for five years and do not have any record of misdemeanor or penal conviction.
