Three years ago during a fire incident at a school in Shinabad of Kurdistan, 28 young school girls were burned in fire.
The fire was caused by a broken heater in an old and small building which housed the elementary school the girls attended.
Two of the girls –Siran Yeganeh and Saria Rasoulzadeh– died as a result of the burns.
According to reports, insurance companies paid compensation to the families of 18 students who suffered severe burns in the fire, but the amount of compensation was cut into half because the victims were girls. The a lawyer stepped in and undertook the defense of eight remaining girls to receive full compensation arguing that there is no difference between men and women when it gets to physical harm, citing article 562 of the Islamic Penal Code.
In the meantime, the court decided that full compensation must be paid to the parents of the two girls who had died in the fire incident. However, the parents have not received such compensation after three years.
