NCRI WOMEN'S COMMITTEE

Works extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintains a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women's rights organizations and NGO's and the Iranian diaspora. The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Commission meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues, and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime's misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.

The Iranian judiciary sentenced a young man and a woman to flogging, exile and forced labor in a mental patients facility.

The young woman was accused of having secret relationship with the man, a charge which both denied. However, they were each sentenced to 99 lashes. Furthermore, the man was sentenced to exile while the young woman was sentenced to two years of forced labor in a mental patients center. She has to work 6 hours a day, 3 days a week for a year.

This is while relationship on the internet has not been defined as a crime even in the regime’s medieval laws.  (The state-run Hamshahri website – October 9, 2017)
