A Supreme Court judge, cleric Qorbani, stated: “If an Iranian woman marries a foreigner without governmental permission the marriage is accepted according to Sharia, however it is not a registered one so it can be prosecuted and according to article 645 of Islamic Penal Code, it will be reprimanded.”
Stressing that according to article 1060 of the civil law that the marriage of an Iranian woman to a foreigner requires governmental permission he said: “The body issuing such permits on behalf of the government has been the Interior Ministry and the reason to such a permission is to protect the country’s security and to support Iranian citizens.” (State-run Asre Iran – April 08, 2013)
