In an interview with Tasnim (state-run news agency) Mohammad Javad Larijani said, “Mrs. Ashton was concerned about the news fabricated about Evin Prison and said we are studying it. She was not so active about human rights prior to this. This indicates something.”
Question: You pointed out human rights. Has pressure on Iran intensified in this regard after the Geneva Agreement?
Larijani: Nowadays, the human rights issue is not classified any more. It has transformed into a very harsh, intrusive and aggressive front against us. For instance all the westerns stood against the case of a convict by the name of Reyhaneh Jabbari who has been sentenced to death. Mr. Ahmed Shahid reported to the High Commissioner and said the woman is a victim of the incompetent Iranian judiciary. Such an evaluation and report belongs to a bold, half-witted person… If he was a professional, he would study her trial procedure… He was not able to find any faults so he finally said such rubbish and his report has become the standpoint of the Commission… By the way, we consider Qesas (retribution in kind) a very dazzling verdict… Qesas is a punishment in accordance with Islamic rules, we will resolutely carry it out and are proud to do so… Our policy is to investigate the files decisively, then issue the sentences based on Islamic rules and carry them out. We will completely defend our actions in the international arena. This is our successful strategy and we will continue doing it.
