Following 82 days of hunger strike in Gharchak Prison in Varamin (southeast of Iran), Ms. Basma Jabouri, an Iraqi native imprisoned in Iran, has entered into a coma. This 39-year old mother of two has been behind bars for 4 years now.
Protesting the violation of her basic rights, she launched her hunger strike on April 8th and reports indicate that she fainted on June 29. The screams of her cellmates forced prison guards to have her transferred to a hospital in Varamin. However, they returned her back to prison the next morning.
Currently her physical conditions are reported as dire and she is suffering from an irregular pulse, severe drop in blood pressure, serious weight loss and decrease of vision. However, she is still unwilling to stop her hunger strike and insists on human rights demands being met.
