Atena Damei, is a political prisoner currently held in the women’s ward of the notorious Evin Prison. Her illness has advanced after nearly a month as Tehran judiciary officials continue to refrain from sending her to a medical center.
Daemi was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards intelligence in September 2014 and transferred to Evin’s ward 2A. In March she was sentenced to 14 years prison.
During the ten months she has been in prison, physicians have seen signs of numerous illnesses, including MS and cancer. Her family has been following up on this matter seeking to have her sent to a hospital. However, their efforts to this day have been futile.
Evin Prison’s physician known as Taghi-pour, has reportedly set immoral conditions for Atena in order for her to be visited by a specialist at a hospital. Atena has protested such treatment.
Ever since, Khodabakhshi, the representative of the public prosecutor’s office, has neglected immediate orders by physicians. He has referred to footages of Atena Daemi being posted on social media showing her going to a hospital, and under this pretext is preventing her transfer to a hospital.
Her life is in serious danger.
