In remarks made at the second international gathering on “Women’s Role in Lasting Development”, presidential deputy on Women and Family Affairs implied that Iran’s social conditions are ready for women’s assumption of greater role in society,
however, the government’s lack of support for that has prevented women from doing so.
Shahindokht Molaverdi admitted, “The conditions and situation of women in Iran have changed due to internal and international developments such as the families’ economic need for women’s revenue, emergence of different behavioral and social patterns among youths… increased presence of women in science centers and their expectation and desire for participation in the job market.”
Molaverdi added, “On the one hand, this has prepared an atmosphere where women’s employment can transfrom from areas of lesser importance to key areas in society. On the other hand, in light of the general atmosphere of employment in the country and the difficulties and restrictions for recruitment of women in the public and private sectors, women’s overcoming of these obstacles and limitations need government’s support and elimination of obstacles.”
