The situation of children is not good in this country, and we have done little to better the situation of street children and child laborers,” so said Fatemeh Daneshvar, member of Tehran’s City Council.
In a shocking confession in a meeting at the Ministry of Labor, Cooperation and Social Welfare, she said, “I knew a 10-year-old girl who had given birth to two children. She rented her kids because her father was in prison and her mother could not pay for their expenses.”
Daneshavar said, “The situation is such that we would not dare to speak about street children in the government… We need to take a bill to the parliament and empower social workers to intervene.”
