“Women sleeping in cardboard boxes and prostitutes sell their newborn infants for only 100-200 thousand toumans ($30-60) once they are born. This is done in some hospitals in south and central Tehran.”
The news was announced by Fatemeh Daneshvar, chair of the social committee of Tehran City’s Islamic Council. She said most of the infants have HIV and die after a while, especially that they are not taken good care of and are used for begging by gangs.
Daneshvar added, “The infants born by runaway girls who enter Tehran (from other cities) and get pregnant are bought at higher prices.”
