In a report published by official Iranian media, it was revealed that 40 cities in 13 Iranian provinces have the largest number of illiterate 6-year-old girls and older.
Based on the statistics collected in 2011 by Iran’s Statistics Center, of the 9,483,028 people considered illiterate in Iran, 6,025,965 were women; this means that two-thirds of the country’s illiterates are women.
Most of these illiterates are in the three provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan, Western Azerbaijan and Eastern Azerbaijan.
