Gohar Eshghi, the bereaved mother of Sattar Beheshti, the young worker and web blogger
who was killed under torture by intelligence ministry agents in November 2012 for blogging and exercising his right to freedom of expression and opinion, denounced the regime’s recent crackdown on youths and workers and flogging them. She accused Rouhani’s government of spending the public’s wealth on buying flogs and whips to punish the nation’s children.
Ms. Eshghi noted the conviction of the doctor who verified that her son had been tortured in prison, the flogging of workers, as well as the flogging of youths arrested in a party and said, “When a ruler thinks he can silence people by creating fear and terror, he does not believe in any religion and he does not believe in justice.”
