The media reported the suicides of at least two women over the past week.
A 22-year-old woman identified as H.M. committed suicide in Neka, northern Iran, by taking aluminum phosphide pills on October 10, 2017. The state-run Mazandaraneh, which published the news, added no further information.
Another young woman identified as F. set herself on fire on October 7, 2017 in the Kurdish city of Saqqez. She was the mother of two little children. The reason behind her suicide is also unclear.
While the state-run media give no explanation about the reason of the suicides, it is crystal clear that Iranian women are frustrated with the widespread violation of their rights and rampant crackdown on women in Iran. This is the reason why Iran ranks first in the Middle East for women’s suicide.
