A group of Tehran residents with a prominent presence by women gathered in front of the municipality building on Saturday, December 23, 2017, to protest heavy air pollution in the capital and the officials’ failure to address the problem. They held banners demanding the officials’ accountability for the 100 billion toumans of budget allocated for air purification.
Students of foreign languages at Tehran University also held a gathering on the same day, in protest to the low quality of food and imposition of extraneous regulations by the financial directorate. Students lined up their trays on the ground. The protesters’ demands included: 1. immediate formation of a logistical council; 2. reimbursement of the cash collections made during the graduation ceremony and investigation of other financial violations; 3. establishment of scientific associations, theaters and music secretariats, and other cultural activities and allocating them funds; 4. immediate termination of extraneous monitoring and control of students, especially girls, by irrelevant staff.
