Two teenage girls threw themselves off a bridge in Tabriz, capital of East Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
The two young women, 17, survived and were transferred to hospital.
Increasing pressure and restrictions on Iranian women and girls, and numerous restrictions imposed on them with regards to employment and social activities, has led to pervasive depression and despair among women and a high rate of suicide and suicidal attempts.
Iran ranks first in the Middle East with regards to women’s suicide.
