Iran: activist on hunger strike protests death sentence of political prisoner

Azam Najafi, a protester opposing the death sentence issued for Mohammad Ali Taheri, has been on hunger strike since 7 December following her arrest in a gathering outside Evin Prison on 28 November.

She has been threatened by her interrogator to receive a longer jail sentence after refusing to cooperate with security agents and also refusing to write the term “activist of a diverted sect”.

According to witnesses, agents had beaten Najafi at the time of her arrest, leaving her with an injured leg.
