Iran: Women’s appointments stopped by Council of Guardians

An official in the Governor’s Office of Khuzistan announced that following the announcement by Khuzistan’s Governor of the appointment of eight women to head various sections of the province,

representatives of the Council of Guardian expressed their strong opposition to the measure and the number of appointments, demanding that the appointments be stopped.

The Ministry of Interior subsequently endorsed the Guardian Council’s view and the appointments were stopped altogether. This was the first time that eight women had been appointed as heads of provincial sections in a province.
