The head of the Prison Organization said that 10,000 spouses had filed for divorce because their families’ breadwinners were jailed.
Jahangir added, “2,500 children of prisoners were identified last year, who were exposed to drug addiction… 700 children of prisoners had also dropped out of school.”
“According to statistics, 22 percent of prisoners do not have visitors… When prison terms get lengthy, visits drop,” Jahangir added. (The state-run BORNA news agency – May 31, 2017)
