Iran: Call for revocation of UNESCO’s Education 2030 document

Call for revocation of UNESCO’s Education 2030 document

The representative of the mullahs’ Supreme Leader in Mashhad (northeastern Iran) called for revocation of UNESCO’s Education 2030 document.

Mullah Alamol-Hoda declared in his Friday prayer sermon, “The document was originally intended to advance globalization (efforts) headed by America.”

UNESCO’s Education 2030 document calls for gender equality in education and promotion of equal opportunities for both men and women. This Framework for Action was adopted in September 2015 by the United Nations and all member states are obliged to take steps to implement it in practice.

Alamol-Hoda said the articles of the Education 2030 document contradict the values of the clerical regime. He asserted, “The document indicates that minorities in education include also gender minority in addition to minorities in religion, politics, thoughts, and creeds.”

“Article 170 of the Constitution states that if the government signs or adopts an accord or treaty which contradicts the Constitution, the Supreme Administrative Court is authorized to revoke it. Accordingly, the Supreme Administrative Court is able to use this opportunity and revoke this document (Education 2030) according to Article 170.” (The state-run Fars news agency – June 2, 2017)
