Iran: Women’s futsal games cancelled due to lack of funds

Women’s futsal games cancelled due to lack of funds

Massoumeh Zare’e, the head coach of the women’s futsal team of the Municipality of Rasht, northern Iran, said her team is not sent to high-cost games!

The women’s futsal team of Rasht’s municipality cancelled her trip to Ahwaz, capital of the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzistan, at the 11th hour and did not attend its game with the national drilling team of Ahwaz due to lack of funds.

The municipality of Rasht did not participate in its match with the national drilling team of Ahwaz in the eighth week of the women’s Futsal League. Zare’e explained, “We intended to go to Ahwaz up to the final moments. Unfortunately, our expenses were not provided for, and the team could not go to Ahwaz due to financial problems. The Municipality of Rasht had to provide funds for the team, but it did not and eventually, we lost the opportunity for this week’s game.”

She added, “Last year, we did not go to Ahwaz, and it happened this year, too. Playing against Ahwaz is costly. While the technical staff disagreed, the team was not dispatched and the (last year’s) incident was repeated.”

The tournaments of the women’s futsal teams were held on Sunday, December 3, while the two teams of Esteghlal of Sari and Municipality of Rasht were not able to face their rivals due to financial problems. (The state-run ISNA news agency – December 4, 2017)

Sari is the capital of Mazandaran Province and Rasht is the capital of Gilan Province, both located along the coasts of the Caspian Sea in northern Iran.
