Iran: 9 women arrested for singing underground

Twenty-one underground singers, including nine women, were arrested in Bandar Abbas port, capital of the southern province of Hormozgan. Six studios were also sealed up.

Chief of Public Security Police, Ali Asghar Ebadi, was cited by the state media on January 11, 2018. He said, “Police forces identified a number of people who were engaged in professional singing underground and had produced and disseminated their video clips in dissident satellite networks and the cyberspace. Police carried out two separate operations and arrested 21 underground singers including nine women.”

Ebadi added, “Six studios belonging to the accused were also identified and sealed.” (The state-run Mizan online – January 11, 2018)
