Atena Daemi’s parents write to UNSR on Iran human rights

The parents of Iranian political prisoner Atena Daemi wrote a letter to Ms. Asma Jahangir, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, to protest the beating and transfer of their daughter from the women’s ward of Evin to Qarchak Prison. In parts of their letter they wrote:

We urge you, not only because of your heavy responsibility as the UNSR on human rights, but as a woman, a mother and as a human being, to convey our voice, the voice of Hossein Daemi and Massoumeh Nemati, a father and a mother who have started their day with the news of vicious beating of their imprisoned daughter. Our daughter’s life is in danger!

On January 25, Atena Daemi and her cellmate, Golrokh Ibrahimi Iraee, were violently beaten up and transferred to the Quarantine of Qarchak Prison, without informing her lawyer, without observing humanitarian and legal standards, and without allowing them to take their personal belongings with them.

This is while Atena has spent the best years of her life in prison on heavy sentences for defending the rights of children, insisting on women’s human rights, defending human beings and opposing the death penalty. But this is not enough for the Iranian regime’s judiciary and throughout her imprisonment, they have made their best efforts so that Atena and her family do not experience calm…

We, hereby, urge you to use your good offices to have Atena released. It is not fair for Atena to remain in prison. Please help free our daughter.
