Maryam Derisi sentenced to 22 months in jail and 74 lashes

The Revision Court of Fars Province sentenced Maryam Derisi to 22 months and 17 days in jail and 74 lashes.

Maryam Derisi, from Kazerun, is a master’s student of English language and literature at Saveh University. Security forces arrested Maryam Derisi on October 15, 2022, in Shiraz. She stayed eight days in solitary confinement in the detention center of the Department of Intelligence of Shiraz. She was subsequently transferred to Adelabad Prison or the Central Prison of Shiraz. She was released on bail on November 2, 2022.

On January 26, 2023, the Revision Court of Fars Province sentenced her to 15 months and one day for “insulting the leader,” and to 7 months and 16 days for “propaganda against the state,” which amounts to a total of 22 months and 17 days of imprisonment.

The sentence considers the initial days of detention and would be commuted to 15 months in jail, according to Article 134 of the Punishment Code.

Previously, on November 14, 2022, Branch 103 of the Revolutionary Court of Kazerun sentenced Maryam Derisi to one year in prison for “disruption of order and public peace” and 74 lashes for “committing forbidden act through removing her veil.”

On November 16, 2022, Branch 102 of the Revolutionary Court of Kazerun sentenced Maryam Derisi to two years imprisonment for “insulting the leader” and one year in jail for “propaganda against the state,” which is a total of three years.

The Babolsar Security Police Department summoned a lawyer, Saeedeh Mir-Qorbani, 32, from Babolsar (Mazadaran Province). The Security Police told her to apologize for her activities on social networks. When she refused to apologize, she was arrested.

Security forces arrested Saeedeh Mir-Qorbani on December 3, 2022. Thus far, there is no information about her whereabouts or the charges against her.

Parvin Abdollah Panah sentenced to 2 months in jail

Branch 1 of the Saqqez Revolutionary Court, based in Baneh, sentenced Parvin Abdollah Panah to eight months in prison.

According to the verdict, she was sentenced to two months imprisonment and six months suspended imprisonment for two years. She has been officially notified.

Parvin Abdollah Panah was temporarily released from Sanandaj Correctional Center on June 18, 2022, after 55 days of detention and posting bail of 300 million tomans. Ms. Abdollah Panah was denied the right to a lawyer during her detention.
