The life of Zahra Safaei is in danger in Qarchak Prison as the prison authorities have prevented her dispatch to the hospital on April 12, 2022.
Political prisoner Zahra Safaei had an appointment for angiography at the hospital. However, the Qarchak Prison authorities told her that she could not go to the hospital unless her hands and feet were cuffed. She refused to accept this condition, and as a result, she could not make her appointment for angiography.
Mrs. Safaei has a severe heart condition, and she has had several angiographies since September 2021. The prevention of her hospital visit puts her at significant risk.
According to a recent directive by the Prisons Organization, it is forbidden to use foot cuffs for prisoners unless he/she committed a violent crime.
Zahra Safaei suffers from a severe heart condition
Having suffered a heart stroke and undergone surgery, Zahra Safaei is not physically fit to tolerate the difficult conditions in prison.
Mrs. Safaei was transferred to the hospital on August 31, 2021, four days after she suffered a heart attack. Despite her dire health conditions, which make her unable to tolerate the harsh prison conditions in Qarchak Prison, she is still imprisoned.
In violation of the principle of the separation of crimes in prisons, Mrs. Safaei is being detained in the same place as dangerous criminals and ordinary prisoners. She has been harassed and attacked several times by dangerous criminals hired and incited by the warden of Qarchak, Soghra Khodadadi.
Security forces arrested Zahra Safaei in Tehran on February 24, 2020. They also arrested her daughter, Parastoo Mo’ini. They were subsequently transferred to the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center (Ward 209 of Evin Prison). Zahra Safaei and Parastoo Mo’ini were transferred to Qarchak Prison in early March 2020.
On June 28, 2020, Mrs. Safaei was temporarily released from Qarchak Prison, until the end of her trial, on bail of 300 million Tomans. But she was rearrested on July 26, 2020, when she went to the Prosecutor’s Office of Evin Prison to review her case and that of her daughter. On July 27, 2020, she was transferred to Qarchak Prison.
Political prisoner Zahra Safaei, 58, suffered a heart stroke on October 27, 2020, after being harassed and intimidated by prison authorities.
